DESIGN FOR ACCESSIBILITY
COMMON SENSE LESSONS
To be presented by
Kirk Hummel, Director of UDS Accessible Home Modifications Program and
Chris Hurdleston, Commercial Sales Development Representative for UDS
(United Disability Services) of Lancaster
This interactive workshop is designed to show attendees how ADA minimums do not always mean “accessible” and how ADA does not encompass the wide variety of physical impairments encountered in an aging or disabled population. This workshop will help you understand basic disabilities, progressive disabilities and how your designs can add long term value to your clients’ projects, as well as their customers.
Learning Objective # 1: How persons with assistive devices (wheel chair, walker, etc) function within the confines of a typical ADA bathroom.
Learning Objective # 2: Learn what the progressive design needs are of a frail and elderly population.
Learning Objective # 3: Designing for longer term living and aging in place.
